Flood Relief Efforts

The Indus Canada Foundation (Indus) was actively involved in flood relief efforts during devastating floods in 2010,2011 and 2022, providing critical aid to communities affected by severe flooding. Some of the work that Indus carried out included:

  • Distribution of cooked and instant food items with linen, clothes, mineral water and sanitary items to 468 families in various IDP camps.
  • Distribution of 285 mosquito nets in IDP camps.
  • Distributed grocery bags with dry milk, biscuits, cake rusks, toffees together with cans of drinking water and essential medicines to 375 families serving needs of around 700 children at various IDP camps.
  • Provided essential items to help displaced families cope with their circumstances. This included the distribution of 100 blankets and sheets at an IDP camp serving families from different villages.The foundation also distributed food items, mosquito repellents, and essential toiletries to support families living in harsh conditions.
  • Organized five one-day Medical Camps serving around 6,000 people with checkup and free medicines for common ailmentss such as diarrhea, malaria, vomiting, food poisoning, etc. Patients with diabetes and other prolonged ailments were prescribed and their medicines were locally purchased and provided as well.
  • Establishment of Tent City during 2010 floods together with partner organizations to accomodate 500 families in tents for over two months till such time the affectees were able to get back to their homes.
Indus's flood relief efforts not only addressed immediate needs but also aimed to restore a sense of normalcy for those affected by devastating floods. By providing comprehensive support, from providng shelter to food distribution to medical assistance, Indus made a significant impact on the lives of the families and individuals who faced challenging conditions during this crisis.
