Cultural Diversity

Culture embraces everything from the choice of what to wear each day to the traditions, beliefs and values of the family and community. This includes all forms of artistic expression and creativity. Culture is also the language that someone speaks, the place of worship, the things that move people emotionally, the sources of meaning in peoples’ life. Culture is all of these elements and the way they connect to make up your way of life.

Indus Canada Foundation will host cultural events inviting people from various backgrounds and cultures to showcase their culture and promote heritage. Such events will support the social and economic well-being of Albertans, new immigrants and the communities at large, as they will draw a large participation from neighboring cities and provinces and will help raise the awareness about Multiculturalism amongst all Canadians.

Cultural diversity or multiculturalism is the acceptance of the various ethnic cultures in schools, organizations, businesses, neighborhoods or cities. At the best, it involves treating impartially and fairly each ethnic group without promoting the particular beliefs or values of any group. Diversity is nothing more than a difference from the majority. In any culture there is a majority and many minorities. Culture is a set of norms that set standards for a society of what is acceptable behavior. In every culture there are basic standards for social interaction such as personal space distance, eye contact, amount of body language displayed in public, negotiating style, etc. It is important to understand these behaviors to avoid unconscious bias.

Indus Canada Foundation will also encourage dialogue about the cultural diversity and arrange interactive workshops and seminars aiming to present various cultures, their ways of life, dealing with unconscious bias, respecting diversity, and ways to recognize and integrate various communities for the social wellbeing of Canadian multicultural society.
